The rich blacks and luminous blues of the water were painted to feel deep and mysterious, like a place of reflection and inner stillness, while the brilliant koi bring warmth, vitality, and life.
I painted this original watercolor using Daniel Smith gemstone paints, whose radiant mineral qualities add depth, light, and a shimmering sense of life. Those luminous pigments helped me create a feeling of movement and spirit within the piece, as though the koi are emerging from the water with a quiet blessing.
For me, this painting is about more than just a koi pond. It is about the soul’s journey — moving through shadow and light with grace, persistence, and trust. Like the koi, we continue forward, shaped by the currents, yet flowing with our own inner waves of colorful expression.
