“Aloha” is a tribute to the beauty, spirit, and sacred mana that can be felt throughout the Hawaiian islands. At the heart of this original mixed media painting, a vibrant hibiscus blooms with softness and radiance, while bold black paint pen forms rise along each side like protective boundaries bringing standing (Kū) strength, upward movement, and presence to the piece.

The hibiscus has long been one of my favorite tropical flowers. To me, it's vibrant, colorful, feminine and masculine - and alive with beauty. In creating this painting, I wanted to honor that beauty while also giving it a stronger voice. Influenced by my background working in tattoo shops in my twenties, I brought in painted side details that add a bold Pacific Island energy, creating contrast between softness and power, grace and strength.

What speaks to me most in “Aloha” is the deeper feeling within it. This piece is not only about a flower, but about the spirit that lives through the natural world — the breath, beauty, and quiet presence of Ke Akua moving through creation. In the radiant bloom of the hibiscus, in the lush greens behind it, and in the strength of the surrounding forms, I feel the essence of aloha as something far deeper than a greeting. It is reverence, faith, connection, and the breath of life and love.
