The design of this painting is deeply influenced by Christie’s creative path as both a professional snowboarder and artist. During her years competing on the world tour, Christie spent her off-seasons immersed in art — working in tattoo shops in her hometown of South Lake Tahoe in the spring and fall, and spending summers at snowboard camp on the glacier at Mt. Hood, Oregon. That unique background helped shape her signature style, where fluid natural forms meet bold outlines, decorative pattern, and expressive color.

The tattoo influence can be felt in the strong contour lines, ornamental details, and graphic flow throughout the turtle’s form, while the soft layered blues of the background evoke water, sky, and the spiritual movement of the ocean. The result is a piece that feels both grounded and alive — playful, soulful, and full of aloha.
