ART STORY: Inspired by one of my favorite island fruits and history of the symbol. The tradition of using the pineapple as a symbol of welcome, often appearing on gateposts, pillars, and in architecture, primarily flourished during the 18th and 19th centuries in America and Europe. Originating from Caribbean, 17th-century sea captain traditions, the symbol signified hospitality, as rare pineapples were placed outside homes to invite visitors.
